ROC Drenthe College

ROC Drenthe College, recently merged with Terra to form DCTerra, is a major secondary vocational education institution in the northeastern Netherlands, serving approximately 11,000 students with a workforce of 850 staff members. It offers education in three core divisions: Technology, Health and Welfare, and Business and Economics, providing both school-based (BOL) and work-based (BBL) learning pathways, all of which require mandatory work placements.
A third pathway, Entree, supports learners with limited labor market access, aiming to enhance employability and personal development. The institution collaborates extensively with local and regional stakeholders—including government bodies, businesses, and educational partners—to align its training with labor market demands and address skills shortages.
Internationalization is a strategic priority. The college has a dedicated international department since 2017 and actively leads or participates in Erasmus+ KA1, KA2, CoVE, and eTwinning projects. It partners with VET institutions and networks such as EfVET and the Rhineland Institute, contributing to cross-border education and regional development between the Netherlands and Germany.
DCTerra embraces the region’s major transitions—from fossil to renewable energy, linear to circular economy, analog to digital, and curative to positive health care—through collaborative initiatives like the Technology & Care Academy (TZA), Care Campus, and partnerships with NHL Stenden and Noorderpoort.
With a strong social mission, DCTerra promotes vital citizenship and social emancipation, aiming to turn underprivileged youth into promising professionals. It invests in mental health, lifestyle education, and student guidance, with increased tutoring hours, early intervention systems, and a revised support structure. Safety and inclusion are also prioritized through a safe school coordinator, collaboration with local authorities, and participation in campaigns such as “Orange the World”
